Cold Brew is a must-have item to put on your menu.
Cold brew is the process of brewing coffee or tea in cold or room temperature water for an extended period of time. Cold brew coffee is a trend that gained popularity around 2015 and is continuing to grow around the United States.
A trick that most people don’t know is that tea can be brewed using this process as well. Cold brew tea is a great way to make your tea last longer. Brewing tea with hot water makes the tea only have a shelf life of about one day. Cold brewing tea allows the shelf life of your batch to last up to 5 days. This is an awesome way to save money and make your stock last longer.
How does Cold Brew Taste?
Another major difference between hot and cold brewing is that cold brew changes the flavor pallet of both coffee and tea. When coffee is brewed hot, it adds that acidic strong java taste. When it is cold brewed, it is sweeter and smoother.
When tea is hot brewed, oils are released from the tea leaves, which is why the shelf life doesn’t last long. When tea is cold brewed, a lot of those oils aren’t released, so your tea will have a longer shelf life, but also a milder flavor.
Cold brew is a great beverage to incorporate on your menu because of its versatility, longevity and taste.
Cold Brew Recipe
- 10-12 quarts of water
- Fill plastic container with 10 quarts of water (if the flavor is highly concentrated you may fill up 12 quarts of water)
- Place 1 bag of Tea Zone® tea leaves or choice of ground coffee in the cold brew filter and tie tightly.
- Place cold brew filter in water and submerge for 12-24 hours in a refrigerator
- After the stepping process has ended, remove cold brew filter and serve!
